On the client I get this error when trying to connect to server.
"Failed to connect to server: Protocol error from server"
Both PCs are Windows 7 x64 using Synergy v1.4.11. I've verified that Synergy is allowed in the firewall and the port, 24800, isn't being blocked.
Any suggestions?

i just want to share my experience with photoshop CC and W8 (both 64b) and synergy (32b as 64 never worked) when i installed synergy, i was disapointed by the in game performance (i wanted to control my game PC from my pro PC since i cant afford 2 topre keyboard).
but the worst was when i tried to launch photoshop and i was unable to use any mouse tools like selection, crop, pencils, etc. Strangely, In Design CC or bridge was working. Only photoshop CC was buggy. Had to uninstall synergy as photoshop is my main work tool. everything back to normal fyi, i was in elevate mode as it was the only way for synergy to work If someone experienced a better experience with photoshop, i would be interested to know
Is it possible to put synergy 'on hold' so it doesn't work for a while and start it again? What I currently have is my syngergy service and process running on both client and server PCs. When I stop service and/or process, I have to restart pc to turn it on again.
uses 25-50% of cpu so it freeze hangs, only way to get back some control is to ctrl alt del on client (wich hold captive the mouse & keyboard focus, sometinmes I need to close session 'cos I can't keep mous control from ctrl-alt-del menu to desktop.
I use 100% of the time: chrome+kompozer+firefox+virtualdj
and even virtualdj is set to asio to not conflict it freeze & by moments 1-3 mins tried reinstall, format cache & reistann 32bit instead of 64bits, tried to protect all files of synergy as soon as they're on disk(prgfiles(86))
Not sure why it's not working, I followed the set up guide but no luck. I have an Apple Airport Extreme, 27-inch iMac (late 2011, 3.4 GHz, Mountain Lion), and a 13-inch MacBook Pro (late 2011, 2.4 GHz, Mountain Lion). Any suggestions?

Hi I have a linux pc which acts as a server but has separated xsessions. Therefore the server only sees 1 monitor (:0.0). The setup with the other computers runs fine but I can not get the other display (:0.1) incorporated into the synology system. If I set up a client on that xsession and connect it with the --display option I can get it to connect to the right display session and get it to connect to the server but then when I move from windows to linux 1 (:0.1) the cursor ends up on the same display. Every other transition is possible.

We are getting the Error "IPC connect error, connection refused" What are some of the possible solutions?
I have a Windows 8 server set up with two monitors on an extended desktop, whilst my Ubuntu client also has two, the server works fine and the client works on the main laptop screen but dragging accross to the second monitor on the client the mouse will only stay on the left of the screen, refusing to go any further. Is there something I'm meant to set up for dual monitors? I've never used synergy before.
I have a Synergy server on my Windows 8.1 desktop pc, and a Synergy client on my Lubuntu linux laptop, so that I can use the same mouse and keyboard on both. What a great program!
But there's so many strange behaviours! For one, right now, I am able to move my mouse to the bottom edge of the screen so that my mouse and keyboard control the linux computer, and when I move them back past the top edge of the screen, they control the desktop computer. Except that the Synergy server on the desktop computer says at the bottom left "Synergy is not running", and the button at the bottom right says "Start". How can it be running if it isn't running? I checked, there are no other instances of the Synergy server running. This seems like a major security issue, if there's no easy way for me to actually stop the program!
Two, none of the changes I make in the "Configure server" button's dialog actually seem to take effect. I'd like to change it so that I use the right edge of the screen to go to the linux laptop, and the left edge to go back. So I moved the little icon of the linux laptop in the 'configure server' dialog from underneath my desktop pc, to the right of my desktop PC. It had no effect. I clicked the 'apply' button, it had no effect. I tried the stop and start button on both computers. Nothing. I tried restarting the entire program on both computers. Nothing. I tried going into services.msc and starting/stopping the Synergy service (even though it was already stopped). Nothing. I can't make any changes to the configuration!
Three, every time I start Synergy, I get the error "ERROR: ipc connection error, connection refused". I googled it, and people said to manually start the Synergy service in services.msc, and then it should work. And sure enough, it does work. For that one instance. Once I stop and restart the Synergy server, I have to do it again. I have to manually start the service every time I want to use Synergy.
So whats going on here? Is Synergy not compatible with Windows 8.1 Preview? I had it working before, but all these bugs started slowly popping up. I've seen Windows 8.1 slowly break other programs too.

Hello, i am using synergy on a windows 7 64 bit. From time tyo time i wexperience a slowing of the PC, when it happens i see that synergy process (synergys.exe in this case) is taking up to 800 MB of memory (up to 1.2gb) i have to close synergy and restart. IS that a known bug, is there a solution? is something miscingifured? I have one server and one client.
My server computer seems to be working fine, but on the client side after I input all the information and click "start," the status says, "synergy is starting" and never changes to "synergy is running." Nothing seems to happen at all. How do I fix this?
I want to control one iPad from another iPad via Synergy, so that both iPads are doing the same thing at the same time. Possible? Possible over internet?
Is it possible to arrange the monitors so that they aren't in set blocks? like i have 2 computers 1 with 2 monitors and the other with 1. I like to have the single monitor in the middle (gaming only pc) and the computer with 2 monitors flanking the game pc monitor. In this case I would want as follows

I seem to be getting not where on getting Synergy running on my OSX machine as the server. I have got it running fine on another MAC on the network as the client. The Client is sitting there saying. WARNING: failed to connect to sever. Connection refused. NOTE: connecting to '192.168.0.120' : 192.168.0.120:24800
I am wondering if the problem is related that 1.3 used to reside on the server machine and it used to work. How do you remove the program and start again. Removing app from applications does not do it. I am sure there are some config files some where.
Please tell me how to start again. I am getting rather frustrated.
Server side seems to not working it says Synergy starting. I cannot seem to find the log file to figure anything out.

Server: Win7 with German keyboard Client: Ubuntu 11.10 Synergy: V1.3.7
Things did work fine with Ubuntu 11.04. After the update to Ubuntu 11.10 the Linux client does not show German keyboard characters any more. It seems to think that an English keyboard is connected to the synergy server. They German keyboard connected to the Ubuntu system works just fine!

i've been searching for a while now but havent found anything.
I want to start synergyc with encryption in ubuntu because i have it set on my server.
I've come this far in lightdm.conf greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/synergyc -f myserver
But it cannot connect to the server because it wont use encryption.
can someone please help me with this ?
Ctrl-Alt-Break is the keyboard shortcut to toggle remote desktop between fullscreen and windowed.
Synergy steals it and instead sends Ctrl-Alt-Del to the client (potentially useful because windows treats Ctrl-Alt-Del as special, but a right nuisance here).
Is it possible to disable this behaviour?
In some cases, we have considered having a pair of programmers share two computers side-by-side. One challenge with this is that it could require up to 4 keyboards and mice to let each member of the pair use either computer.
Can Synergy software allow us to do this with just two keyboards and mice? It promises to let one keyboard and mouse be shared by more than one computer using software alone (control goes over the network). If it can work bi-directionally (with two "servers") then it could solve our problem and let a pair share use of any number of computers simultaneously.
We use Macs.

Firstly, I love Synergy. I've tried Mouse Without Borders and it plain sucks in comparison. I love the way Synergy will lock the mouse to one screen while you are dragging a window round so you can still use the window docking feature of Windows 7 without having to resort to using the keyboard.
The one thing I do miss from MWB is the ability to lock both screens by using Windows + L. I use this all the time, but with Synergy using this key combination on the client machine locks the server, but leaves the client unlocked. All the other Windows shortcut keys seem to work fine on the client, it's just this one.
Does anyone know if there is a setting I am missing for this?

i am using a mac pro tower with mac os 10.6.8 as the server i am using a macbook pro with mac os 10.7.5 as the client. i can't connect with the macbook pro it gives me the following error message WARNING: failed to connect to server: address not found for: 169.254.192.125, 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.103
i need support getting the client to find the host mac pro. thanks
