How do I find client hostname on linux?

I can't connect to the synergy server running on my windows pc from my linux laptop. I have the IP address correct, but it says "timed out". Apparently I am supposed to manually add the PC in the configuration grid on the server side first? But to do that I need to know the hostname the client is using. The help guide says to open the 'about' dialog on the client side to see the host name. Well I did that, and there is no hostname.

It says things like "Keyboard and mouse sharing application. Cross platform and open source." all the way to "Visit our website for help and info", but no hostname or IP address like in the screenshot in the help page. It looks completely different from that one. In fact, there isn't even a hostname in the Windows about dialog.

I noticed there is something called "screen name" next to the "server IP" field under the client checkbox. So I tried entering that screen name into the server's configuration grid, but i still get a connection timed out on the client. And yes, the client is able to ping the server IP just fine. This is all over a LAN, so there is no port forwarding issue.

I have the port and IP entered correctly. I don't know about encryption, because I can't see anywhere on the client to enter client encryption settings. But I have tried all the encryption settings on the server end, including disabled.
